The venue (located on Rittenhousetown Lane, Philadelphia, PA) was built in 1707 as the family homestead for America's first paper mill. The mill made linen rag paper for over a century, supplying the pages of America's first books, the pamphlets for Quaker abolitionists and the ordinary note paper on which a vision for a new country was first scribbled down. The invitations are mounted on a cardstock version of the same linen rag paper and printed using 18th century block printing. The homestead housed the Rittenhouse family for eight generations and today is managed as a public park.
